The Library of Alexandria also called the museum of Alexandria was built in Egypt around the year 295 bce. The city of Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great during his conquest. His successor to be pharaoh, Ptolemy I Soter, was the founder of the museum. The Museum was a shrine of the Muses modeled after the Lyceum of Aristotle in Athens. The Greeks played a vital role in the construction of the library. The basic architecture is all based on Greek architecture. It was built because Greek scholars came to Egypt seeking knowledge and a place to collect and organize their studies. At around 246-221 bce the library became too full to hold any more knowledge and a smaller sister branch was made called the Serapeum. No one is sure how many books these libraries contained but estimates say anywhere from 200,000 books to 7000,000 books. Insights Journal Unit 2 Berrett Stillwell Question 1 There is a lot we can learn from books and stories. In the book just david there is a quote, “It is to be expected that when one’s thoughts lead so persistently to a certain place, one’s feet will follow.” This quote is talking about fate and that it will almost certainly lead you to what you want. This quote teaches the reader that they can always achieve whatever aspiration they are trying to achieve. Some people would say that calling good fortune just fate might make you seem arrogant and selfish and that's reasonable. I’m not saying you can just wish for something and get it. Obviously there is going to be some work in there that will balance it out but the main point still stands. You can achieve anything. When the author says that the feet will follow he is saying that you will (most likely) follow through and act on the idea. Thinking that someone will do everything for you is just fantasy. You gain social skills, intellectual knowledge and discernment. Education is the ground level and foundation of the way a person thinks, acts, behaves and interacts. Here is why. Having social skills is fundamental to having a good life. It is the basis to finding an eternal companion and supporting yourself and family. In addition social skills also shape how others view you and whether or not they could be around you comfortably. Without the necessary social skills you would be alone in life and missing many essential pieces to live a happy life.
